The Spring

Without electricity or running water, the school depended on this nearby natural spring for drinking and cooking water. Perhaps the spring ceased to flow when it was no longer needed by students in the one-room school.

A coal stove heated the classroom during winter months, while an outhouse served the school's sanitation needs. The teacher often doubled as the cook for students.
